A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE ON WWII
A professional baseball player, a teacher whose pupils went
off to war, a pacifist during a time of great pro-war sentiment--
these are just a few of the women interviewed in What Did You Do
in the War, Grandma, at
http://www.stg.brown.edu/projects/WWII_Women/tocCS.html
The interviews were conducted by honors English students at Rhode
Island's South Kingstown High School, as part of an Oral History
project. But most of the results are way better than high school
quality. And it's not all schmaltz, patriotism, and political
correctness, either. The ex-ballplayer, for example, complains
that women who kept their "Rosie the Riveter" jobs after the war
contributed to the decline of the American family. If all you know
about World War II is what you've read in books, you should visit
this site.
