The Formula for Terror!
1 Guy + 2 Girls = 3x3 EYES

That pretty much sums it up. Yakumo lead a fairly typical student life, until Pai enters it.

Pai is one of the last members of the immortal Sanjiyan, a race with immense powers and three eyes. When Yakumo is accidentally killed by one of Pai's spirit guides, Pai uses her powers and brings him back as an undead, unkillable being.

Need-less-to-say, Yakumo decides to join Pai in her quest to become human.

Mystic east feel, and monsters, and powerful immortals. Not a bad combination.

Volumes 5 and 6 pick up four years after the events in the original series.

At the end of volume 4, Pai is subjected to something strange. In volume 5 it is learned that her memory was erased and she has been living a lie with an old couple who are under the control of the forces of evil.

Yakumo finds Pai in this state and must convince her of her past. For the most part, he succeeds in doing this, but her memory is still mostly incomplete. The recovery of Pai's memory is basically the quest of the "second" series.

I thought that the new volumes were pretty reasonable sequels to the original story line. Maybe better. Pai seems to be a lot stronger character, even taking up the burden of fighting the various forces of evil. Yakumo has also matured, and seems a lot tougher. He still seems to die in rather violent and graphic ways, however.

The first four volumes are also available as a Perfect Collection and we are promised more new volumes in the future.
