Gen Tokishima and his girlfriend Hoshimi thought that they were just on a date. A huge angelic looking spaceship that appeared over Tokyo, however, was enough to change their plans, however. It was cinched when the owner of this spaceship, who is named Lipumira, appears in front of Gen and Hoshimi and states that Gen is the Mapman and must come with her.

Thus started a treasure hunt for a treasure called the Flowing Light, with the location of the first part of the treasure map being stored in Gen's own DNA. The treasure map itself is broken into three pieces, which when brought together form a star map.

However, this would not be a proper adventure without others who want the treasure. In particular, five other angelic looking spaceships are after Lipumira and Gen. These other persons are agents of a group of aliens called the Mystic Ones. The Mystic Ones are the most powerful and most dangerous beings in the known universe. They have a hidden agenda, with the treasure map forming the core of their plans.

MAPS is a reasonably cute series. The characters are well made and the story is pretty good. One of the more annoying things, however, is that they slightly altered the subtitled names of some of the characters in the fourth episode. This is not a major thing, but does make for some confusion.
